Fall is here
Saturday, October 08th, 2011 | Author:

The one thing that I noticed when I woke up this morning was that it is really chilly outside. I knew I had to put on some clothes that would keep me warm. The problem was that when I looked in my closet, it was full of summer clothes. I knew something had to be done.

I went to the basement and started looking through the boxes of clothes we had put up this spring. I found some of my warmer stuff and tried them on. I was glad that most of them still fit. I guess I will have to put away my summer clothes and get out my winter gear. It’s just one more thing to do.

Nice weather
Saturday, September 03rd, 2011 | Author:

After the big hurricane called Irene, I have been surprised at how the weather is. It has been very nice. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to stay out late and it was still nice when I was doing my chores.

We did not have a lot of damage at my house, but I did have to rake up a number of leaves and needles that fell from the trees after the work was done, I was happy to know that we made it through the storm without much damage. I just feel bad for those who didn’t fair as well as us.

The storm of 2011
Saturday, August 27th, 2011 | Author:

The hurricane called Irene will certainly be remembered as the storm of 2011 for many people. The storm has caused major flooding in many areas and has damaged many homes with its high winds. The rain keeps coming down and has forced everyone to stay at home.

There are many good stories though. Rescuers have been able to transport many people to safety. The fire has also really helped to put out the fire that was raging in the dismal swamp. I’ll be glad when the storm is over and we can tally up the damage.

Here comes the heat
Friday, July 15th, 2011 | Author:

One item that has all the weathermen talking is the coming heat wave that is expected all across the central states. Those in the upper mid-west are expected to hit exceptionally hard as they may not be as used to the heat that is coming. It can be a real danger to those who lack air-conditioning and the elderly.

The good news is that there are ways to combat the heat. The elderly and young should stay indoors and out of the sun when possible. Also, drinking plenty of liquids will help you stay hydrated. The heat wave is expected to last for a week before moving on. Until then, stay cool!!

May Day
Sunday, May 01st, 2011 | Author:

The first of May used to be called, May Day, which was a huge celebration, with dancing and feasting.

I remember first hearing the term May Day as a cry for help in the old war movies. If a plane was going down, the plane radioed, “May Day! May Day!”

I wonder how the term became adopted by the military as a cry for help when for centuries it was actually a celebration of the seasons?
