Fun Weekend
Saturday, May 28th, 2011 | Author:

This Memorial Day weekend is going to be a lot of fun. We have plans for every day that include water, sand, cold drinks and good friends. We might even have a barbecue at the house and put some steaks on the grill. I bought a bag of charcoal so we would have it on hand, just in case. Of course, if I can get someone else to do the cooking, it is that much sweeter for my holiday enjoyment!

Quick Breakfast

In the spring and summer, I like a bowl of cold cereal for breakfast. I try to eat a healthy cereal with not much, if any, sugar. The Raisin Bran is a top choice in my house. When we go grocery shopping, buying a box of Raisin Bran is on the standard list of things to buy. And we always have a jug of cold, fresh milk in the refrigerator.

Memphis Style

There is a barbeque restaurant near the house and since it is so convenient, I decided to give them a try. They have a huge dining room which is always crowded at lunch, but for some reason there is plenty of room at dinner. Even son, I tried the drive through as I wanted to get home.

The menu was really comprehensive for a barbecue place. I decided to try pulled pork sandwich. I like mine wit coleslaw on it, which is an extra charge at some places. But this place lets you order it “Memphis Style” and they put the coleslaw plus a couple of sandwich piles on it for you.

Happy Thanksgiving
Thursday, November 26th, 2009 | Author:

The house is abuzz with action as everyone is pitching in to cook all the food we plan to eat today. We have a lot of people to feed and it’s been a busy morning. I sent the kids out to play in the backyard so that they will be out of the way. I think we have used nearly every pot and pan in the house, but it will all be worth it when the meal is served!

I surly hope that everyone else has a great holiday as well. This is a day to spend with loved ones and to reflect on the good things in this world. I believe that we should take advantage of this day to remember how lucky we are.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Fish and nets
Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 | Author:

Each year, villagers along the Yukon River wait for the annual run of King Salmon. They rely of the fish for food and money. This year, there are few fish to be had. The villagers say the Pollock fisheries that operate in the Bering Sea are killing most of the fish.

The Kings are called by catch by the industry and are caught in the nets and discarded. Each year, thousands of the fish are thrown off the boats to their watery grave. I hope that Alaska will realize the importance of taking care of the bounty that god provided them.
