The one thing that I noticed when I woke up this morning was that it is really chilly outside. I knew I had to put on some clothes that would keep me warm. The problem was that when I looked in my closet, it was full of summer clothes. I knew something had to be done.

I went to the basement and started looking through the boxes of clothes we had put up this spring. I found some of my warmer stuff and tried them on. I was glad that most of them still fit. I guess I will have to put away my summer clothes and get out my winter gear. It’s just one more thing to do.

After the big hurricane called Irene, I have been surprised at how the weather is. It has been very nice. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to stay out late and it was still nice when I was doing my chores.

We did not have a lot of damage at my house, but I did have to rake up a number of leaves and needles that fell from the trees after the work was done, I was happy to know that we made it through the storm without much damage. I just feel bad for those who didn’t fair as well as us.

One item that has all the weathermen talking is the coming heat wave that is expected all across the central states. Those in the upper mid-west are expected to hit exceptionally hard as they may not be as used to the heat that is coming. It can be a real danger to those who lack air-conditioning and the elderly.

The good news is that there are ways to combat the heat. The elderly and young should stay indoors and out of the sun when possible. Also, drinking plenty of liquids will help you stay hydrated. The heat wave is expected to last for a week before moving on. Until then, stay cool!!

Thanks for the guest post by Bradly Watkins

Vacation is coming up soon! I’m a teacher and spring break is just around the corner and a few of my teacher friends and I are planning a trip to Cabo San Lucas!

I couldn’t be more excited, though I’ve been tasked with planning the whole trip, which is not my cup of tea. Thankfully I’ve got clearwirewimax4g so I can access the internet on my breaks at school, so I’ve ended up catching a couple of great sales that only lasted for a short time.

We’re in the market for an all inclusive resort and there are tons of options down there. All I really require is a place to lie on the beach in the sun and somewhere that serves delicious seafood – I have a feeling that won’t be too hard to find! My friends really want to schedule some adventures like zip lining or an ATV excursion but I would be just as happy in a hammock on the beach. Since I’m planning, it looks like my preferences are going to win out!

There have been a number of earthquakes in the state of Arkansas lately. The question has been what the cause of them was. Some believe the quakes are part of what is called a swarm and are naturally occurring. Others believe the cause is much more sinister.

Some scientists believe the quakes are being caused by natural gas drilling. The process is called “fracking” in which water is forced into the ground in order to extract the gas underground. A halt in fracking has been called until the issue can be studied further.

It started early this morning and doesn’t seem to be letting up. There is already an inch or two on the ground with more coming. The wind is pretty high today and this is blowing the snow around and making it very cold. I am looking forward to spring and an end to this weather!

I was kind of looking forward to seeing one of the rare but beautiful sights in the world. The Leonid meteor shower is due to peak in the early hours of Tuesday morning. People in Asia will have some of the best views of this annual event, but Americans will still get a pretty good show.

The comet Tempel-Tuttle will streak by in its 33 year orbit around the sun. The trail of debris it leaves behind becomes the best show in town. Be sure to find an area where there are few lights as they can interfere with the view. I hope to see you out early watching the show!

Scientists say that heating plastics may lead to the release of a poison called Bisphenol A that can cause harm the human body. Even though some plastics may be labeled as “Microwave safe”, that may not be the case. Small traces can still be found. As a preventative measure, always use ceramics or glass in the microwave.

Each year, villagers along the Yukon River wait for the annual run of King Salmon. They rely of the fish for food and money. This year, there are few fish to be had. The villagers say the Pollock fisheries that operate in the Bering Sea are killing most of the fish.

The Kings are called by catch by the industry and are caught in the nets and discarded. Each year, thousands of the fish are thrown off the boats to their watery grave. I hope that Alaska will realize the importance of taking care of the bounty that god provided them.

Things around our office have been tight for quite some time. Since the economy is failing, we’ve had to cut corners wherever possible. We asked our employees to come up with their best ideas for saving money. One of the best ideas was to switch to using Compact fluorescent bulbs in order to use less electricity. This will help save us some money as well.

There are other benefits to switching out our old bulbs. By using the more efficient bulbs, we will help our earth by using less energy. I am always glad to find situations that are win\win. This is one of those times. I’m glad I have such intelligent people working for me.
