Fish and nets
Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 | Author: Jackie

Each year, villagers along the Yukon River wait for the annual run of King Salmon. They rely of the fish for food and money. This year, there are few fish to be had. The villagers say the Pollock fisheries that operate in the Bering Sea are killing most of the fish.

The Kings are called by catch by the industry and are caught in the nets and discarded. Each year, thousands of the fish are thrown off the boats to their watery grave. I hope that Alaska will realize the importance of taking care of the bounty that god provided them.

A safe haven

The world has changed in many ways since I was growing up. One thing that has really changed a lot is the things you can see and hear on TV. I find myself constantly disappointed with the sex, violence, and foul language that dominate the airwaves these days. That’s why I was glad when I found a site called christianchatcity.com. I wanted to find a safe place where my children could enjoy christian chat without worrying about them being influenced by filth.

I must admit that I was a little hesitant about the site at first. I didn’t want my kids to be influenced by some crazy cult. I spent some time on the site myself and found it to be full of people who had fairly mainstream ideas about religion. After I was satisfied that the site was OK, I let my kids on it. Now I am glad they have a place where they can discuss religion in an informal setting. I think it will help them to grow as Christians and become better people. Thanks to this site for providing a safe haven in a world full of bad!

Taxes and the middle class
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 | Author: Jackie

It seems that the middle class may be in for a new round of higher taxes. The new health care bill planned by the Obama administration is sure to bust the budget. With the current deficit already out of control, there will have to be a way for the new bills to be paid for. Once again, the middle class will bear the brunt of the financial burden. I hope the Obama administration will be able to find ways to avoid new taxes as they will surely dampen the already weak recovery.

Saving some Time
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 | Author: Jackie

Every month, I pay a lot of bills. It usually takes me three or four hours to get everything together and write the checks. Then I have to address all the envelopes and fill them out. I set my mind towards finding a way to shorten this process and found one easy solution. I went online and found a cool site called 123print.com. That’s where I purchased some address labels that were really nice.

Now when I pay my bills, I spend a lot less time doing so. Instead of getting a cramped hand writing my address over and over, I just stick my labels on the envelope and go. Since I was on the site anyway, I checked out some of the many other items they had as well. I think I’ll return to this site soon!

Scott Speicher
Sunday, August 09th, 2009 | Author: Jackie

At the beginning of the Gulf war, Navy pilot Michael “Scott” Speicher was shot down in Iraq. Though he was believed to have been killed, his body was never found. The Pentagon has searched for his remains to no avail. He has been listed as “Killed in action” “missing” and “missing/captured” Finally, after a tip from a local Iraqi, his body was found.

The body was apparently discovered in the desert by a band of traveling Bedouins and buried in the sand near the site of his crash. We are all glad that he will finally be coming home.
