A helping Hand

I was talking with my mother who lives in Florida yesterday. She was concerned about her next door neighbor whom I’ll call Mable. Mom and Mable are good friends who have been helping each other get through the tough times that single elderly people may go though. Recently, Mable lost her long-time husband and is having trouble adjusting to living alone. Mable has turned to drinking for solace.

Mom feels that Mable may be in need of alcohol addiction help. I did some research online and have found a great place for Mable to receive the help she needs. There is place called Orchid Recovery Center located in Florida. Orchid specializes in helping women overcome their addiction to alcohol. After reading about all the services they provide and the number of ways they can help, it is clear that Orchid is one of the leaders in Florida alcohol rehab.

I spoke with mom and convinced her to have a serious talk with Mable by telling her that if she was really a friend, she would insist that Mable gets the help she needs. It is rare when we get the chance to really help someone and it is so gratifying when we do!

I’m so lame!

As I was trying to get a head start on my spring cleaning, I was going through some of the boxes in the garage. In one of the boxes I found my old Atari game system. Some of my earliest memories pertain to playing those games. I remember playing Pac-man for hours on end.

I found some of the other games I used to play including Space Invaders and Frogger. I had my son set up the game on our TV. I was showing the kids what we had as children as far as video games. I must admit that compared to the games nowadays, Atari is just outdated, but I had a great time playing them once again!

Anyway, in order to “Make room for progress” my Atari games are back in the box and back in the garage as well. But, even though a little extra room in the garage would be nice, I’ll guess I’ll keep them anyway!
